Option to order citation groups?

Many CSL styles leave the decision of how to order grouped inline citations up to the author. I prefer to order grouped inline citations chronologically, rather than in some arbitrary manner, but this is tedious to do by hand.

I have tried modifying existing CSL specs to accomplish this, but didn’t have much luck. I learned that for numbered citations, it can’t even be done currently.

So, I would appreciate if there were a Paperpile feature which (if enabled) automatically reordered grouped inline citations, from the document’s (i.e. Paperpile’s) perspective. Options to order either chronologically and alphabetically would be nice.
