Often there’s a key figure in a paper that can serve as a useful reminder of the key findings. I don’t know of a reference managed that can display images, but providing a graphical abstract option based either on a figure included in the submitted journal abstract, or a snapshot from the .pdf could make it much easier to find the ‘right’ article, and set PaperPile apart from the rest.

This will be possible once we bring the annotations from our PDF viewer into the Paperpile interface. You will then be able to drag boxes around the figures in the PDF and have them available in Paperpile.

The ability to take a snapshot from the PDF would be great. For example, to put a key figure in personal notes via a note-taking app.
