Adding Individual Authors

The way to input authors as one common separated list (in the manual upload mode) makes it hard to align author names with those already in my library. I frequently search by certain authors and its frustrating when literature is missed because authors are formatted slightly differently, e.g. author searches for “Remington JD” will not pick up “Remington J”.

Is there a way to apply the “duplicate” filter for standardizing author names, journals, or other separate metadata components?

Thanks for sharing this feedback, @anna. Author names can differ if different sources provide different first initials / first names, and when this is the case, we conservatively assume that the authors are different and will not list them as the same author. This can be fixed by editing the metadata so that the author names match exactly.

Currently, there isn’t a way to automatically standardize/merge author names in your library, so I’ve added this as a feature request for the team to consider in the future.

But it is possible to edit Journal titles in bulk. Select the references with the Journal title you want to fix, then click the edit button (pencil) in the toolbar or press E to open the bulk editing dialog, where you can edit the Journal field:

To help you search by author or journal, you can use the Quick lookup feature in the search options:

Then just type the author name:
