Are we going to be getting any updates on the annotations disappearing? Your team created a great product, just fix this issue before you start bleeding users. Clearly many of us believe this is an essential feature that determines whether we’re sticking with this app or not. Out of respect for the paying customers, at least give us your honest timeline for this fix… And if you don’t have an ETA, just say so.
Though we don’t have a specific ETA to share for a fix yet, shipping new versions of the mobile apps is one of our highest priorities at the moment — both to catch up with the new web app and to fix this Android bug.
The challenge for our small team is resource allocation; over the next couple months we will finally be able to re-assign more manpower and resources to mobile in order to prevent unfixed bugs like this one in the future.
EDIT: Actually, the highlights disappeared off my tablet version, but now all show on the desktop version, which is where I’d rather them be, but still would be nice if they were cleanly synced across all devices.
Just came across this issue for myself (highlights on my Galaxy tablet i just spent hours making disappeared on the tablet). Some of the earliest highlights show up when I open the paper on my desktop, but needless to say, this is really frustrating. I specifically did my highlights in paperpile so I would be able to easily access them across devices, but now I’ve lost them entirely ![]()
Hi @vicente Is there any update on this? It’s a significant flaw that has a huge impact on the workflow of many people. It would be great to have a fix after waiting 4+ years.
Any updates on this? Just happened to me and it is very upsetting.
Annotated 2 PDFs, closed it and opened again and the annotations are gone. This is a deal breaker for me, since I mainly choose Paperfile because of Android support - to read on my Lenovo tablet.
Specially considering that this issue has been reported 4 years ago, is a major bug in terms of functionality, and still no proper answer here.
Welcome to our forum, @Guilherme_Wanderley and I’m sorry that this happened. Thank you for sharing your concerns on this thread.
Thanks as well to everyone who has shared feedback here. Our team is currently working on a major overhaul of our mobile apps on both Android and iOS. The goal is to make annotation syncing much more reliable and to ensure a consistent experience across browser, phone, and tablet. This work has taken time because we’re addressing some deeper architectural issues that have caused frustration, rather than applying temporary fixes. All of your feedback is being taken seriously and is directly informing this work.
We’re planning to announce a beta testing program soon, and we would very much value input from users who rely on Android for reading and annotating.
Thank you for your quick answer, Suzanne.
I understand the issues and small team - I’m a developer myself. Frankly, I think your product is great. Good UX, not bloated, cool features etc. But this is unfortunately a deal-breaker. It’s a core feature for my use case.
You also have to recognize that, from our point of view, Vincent said you started working on this major overhaul in March 2024 - it’s almost 2 years now. So it’s natural that we’ll seek alternatives.
I hope everything goes well with the overhaul and hopefully I’ll be able to beta test.
