Citation Style different between Word & Google Docs

Hello,

I was been writing a manuscript in Word and doing all of my citation insertions in Word using the plugin. The style I’m using ISME Journal should show the first 6 authors followed by et. al if there are more than six. I noticed the style in Word is only showing up to 3 authors or et al. when there are more than three.

I did a check in a fresh, empty word document and saw the same behavior. To check if this was a style issue, I did the same citation insertion in Google Docs and noticed that citation (using the same style) show up properly (6 authors followed by et al.).

Why is there this difference between Word and Google Docs and how do I get the citation style to work properly in my word document?

Thanks.

Welcome to our forum, @Brie_Garcia. We get our citation styles from the citation style repository CSL. The ISME journal style follows these rules: Style Info

Can you let us know the exact name of the citation style in Paperpile that you want to use? When I select The ISME Journal style, I see numerical in-text citations in Word and Google Docs, and it shows just one author, followed by et al.
