I’m writing up a summary of how to migrate to different citation managers and user created metadata such as labels or tags appear to be very difficult to transfer across applications. This baffles me because RIS - which is such a simple format - has a labels fields so the only reason this data is lost upon import is that Paperpile doesn’t support this and/or is not mapping these fields correctly.
From what I can see, this is not unique to Paperpile. But I cannot pin down why labels/tags are so problematic to transfer.
Ideally I’d like to see these field supported, or better yet, the ability to implement import crosswalks so data isn’t lost during import.
