Difficulties in citing different editions of the same book

Hi there,

I’m writing an essay, and having significant trouble citing different editions of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. There’s three versions (that I’m trying to cite). The only difference between them is the publication year, and edition number. The third edition (1980), fourth edition (1994), and fourth edition, text revised (2000).

When I try to cite, say the fourth edition, I search for and find this in the pop up text box in google docs. It all looks great, and so I click it. I’m then presented with this box: http://i.imgur.com/PZBQq0h.png

As you can see, the publication year is wrong. No matter which edition I try to cite, paperpile insists on citing the 1980 edition, even after formatting my references. I’ve tried deleting them, entering them by hand, adding them by the ISBN-10, and ISBN-13, adding them from the amazon page, and adding them as different types of citation (journal, book, manual). It seems no matter what I try, paperpile is unable to differentiate between publications when the title, author, publisher, and location are identical.

Any suggestions?

That’s a case where the duplicate detection is acting too strictly. You can do the following to trick it. Just add another letter to the title of one of the items like “Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders A”. It will then show up in the citation dialog. Once you have inserted the citation you go back to Paperpile and remove the “A” again.
