Is Paperpile usable on any E-ink devices like the Remarkable 2 or the Boox Note Air 4C?
It would be nice to be able to read and annotate on a comfortable device with a pen tool.

Thank you for your question, @ashleyv.
The Paperpile mobile app isn’t specifically optimized for e-ink devices, as we see far more demand for iPad as the primary off-desktop reading experience. But it’s also true that Paperpile saves PDFs to your Google Drive if you have Google Drive sync enabled, so any e-ink device that can read PDFs should in theory be able to view what’s saved in Paperpile. And if the e-reader stores notes and annotations in the PDFs and syncs the updated file back to Google Drive, you’ll see those annotations when you open the PDF from Paperpile.
From my personal experience on the Boox Tab Ultra it’s very hit or miss since, as far as I know, it has not been optimized for E-ink readers. It does work but it’s fairly unstable. Not only is it extremely slow but the app tends to easily get stuck syncing files or navigating menus and crashes frequently as a result. I suspect such issues occur when there are a large number of new files added.
For a small amount of files, for example a handful in the starred section of the app, it can work decently but still a frustrating experience.
Annotating and reading is a decent experience but also a bit unstable on the Boox Tab Ultra.
Another issue I keep encountering is that if I upload new files to the app and try to refresh I get a sync error. The only fix for this I can find is to logout and log back in.
So YMMV but it can be an okay experience if your library isn’t huge.
Thanks so much for this post. I was moving between the idea of an e-ink writing device with reading capability and an iPad mini. I do a like a portable device (currently this is my phone but a bit more screen real-estate would help). I was attracted to the idea of also doing hand notes on Boox/Remarkable (and the added benefit of being easy on the eyes and enhanced battery life) but if the experience is not that desirable with the Paperpile app then I think going with versatility over e-ink is possibly going to be more helpful to me personally.
