Improve metadata handling for Research Square preprints saved on iPhone

Hi

There is a recent-ish preprint server called Research Square (owned by Springer Nature). Paperpile will import pdfs from Research Square webpages just fine, but it cannot find the title, authors etc.

It would be great if you could take a look at this at some point.

Thanks in advance,
Will

PS Thanks for all the work on Paperpile! It is absolutely essential for my work and I evangelise about it at every opportunity  I particularly appreciate how smoothly it functions (in general) and all the shortcuts. Huge fan.

Welcome to the Paperpile forum, @wmacnair, and thank you for your kind words about Paperpile!

How are you importing references from the Research Square website? I saved a reference with the P button and it collected metadata like title, authors, reference type (preprint) and DOI. To help us investigate, perhaps you could share an example URL where Paperpile failed to collect the metadata?

Hi Suzanne, thanks for getting back so quickly!

Ah interesting - I get the same as you when I save via the button in Chrome.

The metadata issue happens when I save a reference from Safari via ā€œshareā€. Iā€™m using an iPhone 14. I go to the ā€œshareā€ button in Safari, and click on Paperpile. Then the reference loads into the Paperpile app, but without metadata.

Thanks
Will

Thank you for following up @wmacnair. We havenā€™t been able to reproduce this issue with the mobile app on this website. Can you share an example URL where the mobile app saves a reference with incomplete metadata?

For me this happens with every link on research square. Here is one that I just tested:

Genome wide association studies are enriched for interacting genes
www researchsquare com /article/rs-5189487/v2
(I get an error ā€œcannot post a link to that hostā€ if I use the proper url here so just posting the relevant partsā€¦)

Could it be my Paperpile app version? iOS version?

Let me know if anything else would be helpful!
