New pluggin not handling tabs

I am using the new pluggin (and cannot go back to the old one), but I always had documents with multiple tabs, one list of reference for each tab. This no longer works, I have a single list now, so I am forced to split them into separate documents… We really need an option to have one list per tab or one list per document.

Welcome to our forum, @lew and thank you for your feedback on the new Google Docs plugin. With the new plugin, you can have a reference list on separate tabs. In the Paperpile menu, select Settings:

Then in the Add bibliography dropdown menu, select At the end of each section to create a bibliography in each tab.

Can you try that and let me know how that goes for you?

OK, it seems to work BUT

First I get no reference list
Then I have to select “continue numbering…” which is not what I want
Then unselect this option, to obtain what I want

Thanks for the update, @lew. I’m glad you got it working in the end, but the switching on and off of the Continue numbering toggle shouldn’t be necessary. It sounds like there may be a bug.

To help us reproduce the issue, could you provide more details if you can?

  • Which citation style are you using?
  • Before switching to the new plugin, did you use the sidebar add-on to create the reference lists in each tab?
  • Could you recall step by step what happened. For example: you opened the document, went to Settings, turned on per-tab bibliographies, clicked Save, then saw no reference list, then toggled “Continue numbering” on, then off?
  • Does this happen every time you format, or did it only happen once during initial setup?

If the issue is still reproducible, please share the document with us at share-with-support@paperpile.com so our team can see the exact setup. Screenshots of each step would also be useful if you’re able to capture them.
