Hello,
I am working on the revision of a manuscript and need to keep track of all the changes done to the file. I have removed and added some references, so the numbering of all the following rerefences will change. I am working on suggestion mode, but despite the fact that the numbering has changed, the modifications have not been tracked. How can I do it?
Thanks
Welcome to the forum @Leonela_Luce. Paperpile is not able to execute formatting commands while the Google Document is in Suggesting mode. To ensure that changes to reference numbering are tracked correctly, please switch the document to Editing mode before making any formatting changes. Once the document is in Editing mode, Paperpile will be able to update the references accordingly.
Dear Suzanne,
Thanks for the explanation.
Sorry, I guess I did not explained myself correctly. Paperpile has changed the numbering well. However, I was expecting to see the changes marked in green due to the suggestion mode and that didn’t happen. I need to provide the reviewers with a track changes version and that includes modifications in the references. Is it a way to ask paper to mark the changes it has done?
Thanks!
Unfortunately, while you can create citation placeholders with Paperpile while Google Docs is in Suggesting mode, you won’t be able to properly format the reference list until you switch back to Editing mode. For the review process, you could submit your manuscript with in-text citations as tracked changes, along with a note indicating that the reference list will be formatted once the manuscript is accepted. After acceptance, you can switch the document to Editing mode and click “Format citations” to generate the revised reference list.
Alternatively, for now you could manually add in-text citations while in Suggesting mode, then once the manuscript is accepted, switch back to Editing mode and only then format them using Paperpile.
Thank you so much Suzanne, for the privided alternatives! They were really useful.
