Two types of citation in document

Ive got a document where I used a couple of different ways to cite text:

OPTION 1
This paper follows the definition of an organisation with two characteristics; ‘the adoption of some form of commercial activity to generate revenue; and the pursuit of social goals’ (Doherty, Haugh, and Lyon 2014).

OPTION 2
Firstly, Bloom and Chatterji (2009) proposed the SCALERS framework as key factors behind social enterprise growth.

Option 1 works great, but as soon as I use option 2 and then format citations it overwrites the formatting wherever Option 2 is used. Is there a way to avoid that issue, by allowing for two different citation types, or some other issue?

Welcome to our community, @jho! For narrative citations like Bloom and Chatterji (2009), you can choose the Suppress Author option in the Insert citation dialog in Google Docs and Word. This option causes citation styles to not display the author name within inline citations. When using a parenthetical citation style, this allows you to include just the year in parentheses, and then you can then write the author names before the year in your document.

Click on the blue citation tag to open the advanced options:

When you update or format citations, the in-text citations with the Suppress Author option selected will not change.

The team is currently writing a new citation plugin that will include an Author (Year) option in the Insert citation dialog.
