My work uses a secure browsing tool. I have no problem visiting most sites, but for some reason I see this message whenever I try to visit Paperpile. I haven’t yet seen it on any of the other sites that I’ve been to (many).
The requested URL could not be retrieved.
While trying to retrieve the URL: https://paperpile.com/*
The following error was encountered: Failed to establish a secure connection to [unknown]
Detail: Website cannot be connected to due to weak cryptography (details: no EMS support, no TLS 1.3 support)
Any idea why I might be seeing this? Is this something that could easily be fixed? I don’t know much about EMS or TLS.
Not sure if my work would approve formally whitelisting Paperpile, so wondering if there’s a solution on the Paperpile side.
One thought. You could try a portable browser (Opera, Firefox etc). I use a number of portable apps at work (just put them on a USB drive) which is fairly locked down IT-wise and find that useful. May be a good reason that a secure browsing tool is enforced at your work however. Portable App Directory | PortableApps.com
Welcome to our forum, @Trevuchet, and thank you for reporting the details of the error. This is related to how your organization’s secure browsing tool evaluates encrypted connections. It’s requiring some cryptographic features that aren’t currently enabled in our configuration.
Our product team is working on updating our setup to support this. We’ll share an update here as soon as we have one.

Thank you for the tip. I think this could definitely be a good solution for some people, but it won’t work with my work computer configuration.
