Drive sync in Android app seems broken

I make annotations in a PDF in the webbrowser and everything sync to Drive. It is more random what is synced to and from the Android app. Some changes made in the app isn’t synced to Drive and not all changes in the Drive PDF is synced to the app.

Is there anything I could do to force the android app to sync - and sync everything that is changed in the PDF document?

For everything else - I love Paperpile! But I want the Android app to work properly.

Welcome to our forum, @Odin_Nosen. What Android device and OS are you using?

The first suggestion would always be to attempt signing out and back in of your account on the Paperpile app, let sync run and check if the issue persists. If it does — what exactly isn’t being synced? There is a known bug with Samsung and Onyx tablets where annotations don’t save, which will be addressed in the next update of our mobile app. Let us know if that could also be the case for you.

I have the Pixel 8 Pro with the latest official OS. I tried this from the beginning again. I downloaded the PDF and made a drawing and marked some text, like this:

I scrolled a bit the document, went back to the main screen and entered the PDF again - and none of the changes seemed to be saved in the PDF - it looked like this:

I also opened the PDF in Windows Chrome Paperpile and there was nothing saved there either.

@Odin_Nosen I take it you’ve already signed out of / back in to both Paperpile and Google, both on mobile and web? If you use more than one Google account, it would be good to try signing out of all and then back into the Paperpile-associated one only. Please confirm.

I have the same problem, I tried the solution that you recommended but it didn’t work for me

I am still having this problem in 2025, I just lost a whole evening’s worth of work… any information on when this will be solved (I have a samsung tablet )

Same problem as above. All annotations aren’t syncing properly on the Android app.

Welcome to our forum, @momac and @ajamerlan! Sorry to read about the lost work—this issue has been a grave impediment for many of our Android tablet users so far but, as I mention in the post below, we are finally close to updating the mobile apps and solving it. There should be good news to share later this year.

Totally agree with Odin. The web sync works great, but the Android app feels unreliable. Would be amazing if sync could be improved to make the experience seamless across all devices.

I have the exact same problem with the Android app. Browser extension works great though.

Hi Vincente, is there an update this on issue? Great appreciate other features but just fixing this one (which is very important) will Paperpile the best!

Hi,

Is there an update on this? I’m using a Lenovo Tab Plus (Zui 17.5.10) and any annotations I make disappear after I close the PDF.

Thanks.

Ahmed

Welcome to our forum, @Ahmed_Khalil, and thank you for taking the time to report this issue on your tablet.

We’re currently close to finishing a major overhaul of our mobile apps on both Android and iOS. A key focus of this work has been improving annotation syncing and making the experience more consistent across browser, phone, and tablet, including cases like the one you’re seeing.

Thanks as well to everyone who has shared feedback on this thread. We’ll be announcing a user beta testing program soon, and I’ll be sure to post updates here as they become available.

Thanks for your work! Any approximate dates for this update? I’d like to move back to Paperpile as soon as it’s stable on Android!

Welcome to our forum, @Haejin_Sung! We appreciate you considering Paperpile for your work. Our goal is to start a mobile apps beta testing program in the summer.

Hi, is there an ETA on the android app update (or a beta test)?

Hi,

I am interested in joining the beta program for the android app too, is there an ETA?
