Match arXiv (biorXiv, etc) papers with published conference/journal papers

Many papers are submitted to arXiv and then appear in a conference or journal later; it is a pain to have both references; would it be possible to automatically update it to have the later version, and have a note that says also published as …

A bit similar to this request, but different: arXiv preprints into published articles?

Thanks for your feedback, @EastCoastGeek. Handling preprint updates is something we want to do better in the future, so I’ve recorded your +1 on our internal feature tracker. For the “Also published as” note, are you envisioning an extra field with a link to the preprint?

I vote for this. It’s currently a very manual job to update each paper entry to the latest publication records. One relevant but different feature is the ability to “paste bibtex”, which is easily obtained from google scholar, to update a paper entry instead of going through each entry one by one.

Yep, this has been an issue for ages. I’m starting to lose my faith with developers’ priorities.
