Paperpile for Firefox

Totally agree…

Hello there.

As of late I have noticed that Chrome is super (super super) slow when typing on Google Docs to the point that it is unusable (30 second delay after writing a 6-word sentence). I have searched far and wide for a solution but noting seem to work. I used Google docs on Firefox and I had no issue with the same documents. My question is, is there an alternative browser (even if it is not Firefox) or program that Paperpile can work with?

I really like the product and the staff has been great whenever I have an issue. I would not like to switch programs, but I can no longer do my job.

Thanks

Hi, @David_Acosta, you should be able to use pretty much any of the browsers based on Chrome - Edge, Brave, etc. You might have to do a bit more tweaking of the settings to make sure the addon works correctly. I’ve tried it with Brave, seems to work OK, but I haven’t done extensive testing.

I cannot get paperpile to work on Brave on Linux. I added the items that @nelas mentioned and are the troubleshooting page but still no dice, I get that I need to be on Chrome to use. As of now I need to have chromium running just for paperpile(!). My brave install is even more recent than chromium where the extension works.

Brave	1.12.105 Chromium: 84.0.4147.105 (Official Build) unknown (64-bit)

I have emailed paperpile support but they never get back to me.

Bruno, thought I’d share my advice from our email exhange here as well. Please try entering the URL https://paperpile.com/app in Brave, log in and then install the Paperpile extension. That should enable use of our service as it has for other users so far.

Keep in mind that as Brave has some additional security features; if you need to upload some files from your local storage (PC) you’ll need to “lower the shields” for paperpile.com like shown on the attached image.

I understand we are currently working on supporting chromium-based browsers, so hopefully that’ll happen fully soon!

in order to upload pdf’s from your computer, you have to disable cookie blocking - settings / shields / cookie blocking

Would just add my support for seeing Paperpile on FireFox!!

Any updates on FF support?

Curious because in Feb they mentioned a rewrite of the app to support more browsers and support for firefox would be very nice.

Any updates on the extension for Firefox?

This is on the works! As @gdahia points out, we are still working on rewriting our extension and webapp - not only to support other browsers but to introduce updates and new features as well. Your patience is much appreciated as we draw closer to this goal.

^that would be so awesome!

I had stepped away from Chrome for good, but only came back to it (actually to Edge) because of PaperPile.

I wanted to circle back to this discussion that is years old with the latest reply 6 months old. Any update on the progress for Firefox extension? Given Microsoft Edge’s recent aggressive behavior, I (and many others) would like to switch to Firefox but the lack of Paperpile for Firefox is preventing me from doing that. Thanks for the update.

Yes! Paperpile for Firefox would be a must since I moved away from both Chrome and Safari…

We are nearly there on this front - a private beta of a new extension and web app is scheduled for release by this month or the next. I understand the first tests will be for Safari, then Firefox and other browsers will be added shortly after.

Hi @vicente

Any way we can sign up for the private beta for safari at this time?

Alternatively, It would be nice if you all send beta invitations to users who’ve been using Paperpile for a long time.

That’s the plan, @heumed! Besides a list I keep of those who directly request to participate in the beta, the plan is to invite active “power” users to be the first testers. We’ll reach out when there’s news.

Hi all,

I just have to migrate from Chrome to Firefox as my uni library has issues with chrome (every time I clicked on an article/e-book chrome gives me a privacy error message). It’s been weeks and either chrome or publisher do not seem to work on the issues. So the librarians suggested using firefox or Microsoft edge (which I hated). So now my workflow with paperpile, which is absolutely wonderful when there was no issue with chrome, will be interrupted. Please please release the add-ons for firefox soon. Thank you

Since Google Chrome added new tracking capabilities (e.g. Privacy Sandbox), I have almost completely switched to Firefox. The only reason I use Chrome now is Paperpile. If push comes to shove, I am likely going to uninstall Chrome (e.g. to prevent accidental usage scenarios), and unfortunately, that would mean I would have to painfully migrate away from Paperpile. I would love to have Paperpile run on Firefox!!

FYI - you can use PP with any chromium flavored browser like Edge, Vivaldi or Brave. The latter two seem to be privacy oriented.
